Essendon great Matthew Lloyd has offered St Kilda forward Max King some advice on how to improve his goalkicking.
King has kicked 13.18 for the season and was again wayward in front of goal during St Kilda’s 21-point loss to Geelong on Friday night, booting 1.5 to now sit equal-second in the AFL for total behinds.
Lloyd, the Bombers’ all-time club leading goalkicker, noticed a couple of flaws in King’s kicking technique that he believes are “easily fixable”.

“I just feel there’s not enough momentum through the ball. He’s leaning back on the ball too much and he’s not kicking through the ball,” Lloyd told Channel Nine’s Sunday Footy Show.
“It’s easily fixable. You’ve got to have momentum, so your shoulders stay over the ball and the momentum’s coming through.
“He’s got a slow run-up, so to generate power his shoulder goes back and suddenly he leans off and the ball goes left or right.
“That’s his issue and it’s easily fixable.”
St Kilda coach Brett Ratten has backed the 20-year-old to overcome his goalkicking yips.
“The real pleasing aspect is he played against some really good defenders and he put himself right in the picture and he got to great spots,” Ratten told reporters after St Kilda's loss to the Cats.
“For him to have six shots at goal, gave a couple off – he’s going to put it together, whether it’s next week or in a month, I’m not sure. He’s not far off it.
“We‘ll just keep going through the process that we are. We’ll stick to that. He doesn‘t need too many voices.”
King has kicked 35 goals and 38 behinds from 26 career games for the Saints.
