North Melbourne had their best chance of winning a game so far this season on the weekend, taking on the 17th placed Magpies.
It was a relatively even game, with the exception of Jordan De Goey.
De Goey kicked 6.3 and dominated his match-up with Aiden Bonar.
Despite the forward being in full control on the lead and in marking contests against Bonar, Roos coach David Noble refused to change the match-up.
Full-back Ben McKay was mostly lining up on Beau McCreery and Garry Lyon believes the Kangaroos cost themselves big time by not making a change.
“David Noble is really impressive, I love what he’s doing there, but that match-up had stink all over it right from the word go,” Lyon told SEN Breakfast.
“Ben McKay has been playing really well as a full back. He’s reading space, he’s taking dangerous space, he’s not scared to take front spot.
“I would’ve thought he would have had first crack at De Goey.”
Bonar was substituted out of the game after half-time with an ankle injury and is in doubt for North Melbourne’s clash with Hawthorn this weekend.
