Melbourne sit atop the AFL ladder with a 7-0 record after beating North Melbourne by 30 points at Blundstone Arena on Sunday.
The final scores read Melbourne 16.7 (103) def North Melbourne 11.7 (73).
Despite coming into the game as short favourites, the Demons trailed a gallant North Melbourne by 19 points seven minutes into the third quarter before the tide turned.
Bayley Fritsch was dominant up forward for the Demons with six goals while Ed Langdon continued his impressive start to the season with another strong performance on the wing.
Ben Cunnington was North Melbourne’s best with an industrious 35 disposals and two goals for the losing side.
The win didn’t come without a cost for Melbourne as it looks likely that defender Adam Tomlinson will miss the remainder of the season with a serious knee injury.
Tomlinson came from the ground after an innocuous incident and appeared despondent in the change rooms following tests by club doctors.
Coach Simon Goodwin told Fox Footy that the club expects the worst for the 27-year-old.
“Yeah he is (shattered),” Goodwin said.
“It’s looking like an ACL. It’s shattering for ‘Tommo’.
“He’s worked so hard to get himself in this position.
“So, his teammates and everyone is feeling for him.”
Melbourne will look to extend their unbeaten start to the season against Sydney next Saturday night, while North Melbourne go in search of their first win against a struggling Collingwood next Saturday afternoon.
