Essendon great Matthew Lloyd says young Bomber Nik Cox will be a “headache” match-up for wingers over the next decade.
Cox, selected with pick No.8 in last year’s National Draft, caught the eye during Essendon’s three-point loss to Sydney last week.
The athletic tall was everywhere against the Swans, kicking a lovely running goal on his non-preferred foot, competed well in the ruck, and dropped back to support his defence.
Lloyd asked one of Cox’s Essendon teammates where his best position is moving forward.
“He’s just a really worrying proposition at 200cms. He can kick left foot, he can kick right foot,” he told Channel Nine’s Footy Classified.
“I spoke to a teammate of his and said, ‘where is he going to develop into? A centre half-back or a centre half-forward?
“They said, ‘He’s purely a wingman’. That’s where his best spot is.
“He won the time trial first up, so they’ve got an absolute gem there, who is going to be a headache for all wingmen for the next 15 years.”
Cox, 19, is averaging 14.2 disposals, 4.2 marks and almost a goal a game so far in 2021.
