Two Blues put in strong showings during VFL practice game win over Williamstown

Top Carlton draft pick Liam Stocker has put his hand up for senior selection after a strong showing in a VFL practice match against Williamstown on Saturday afternoon.

It was also a good outing for forward Mitch McGovern, who played his first minutes of football at any level in 2021.

McGovern kicked three goals and Stocker two in the 25-point victory on a warm afternoon at Ikon Park.

Williamstown kicked the first four goals of the game, but the Blues battled back to close the margin to 15 points at quarter time.

But a 13-point deficit at half time turned into a 19-point lead at three quarter time and it was all Carlton from there as they continue their preparation for the VFL season.

Defender Caleb Marchbank didn’t feature in the match, with the club preferring to rest him with a view to playing at VFL level next week.
