Report: Former Souths star Sam Burgess acquitted on intimidation conviction

2021-03-19T14:35+11:00

Former South Sydney Rabbitohs star Sam Burgess has been acquitted on appeal of intimidating his former father-in-law Mitchell Hooke in 2019.

The retired NRL star was originally convicted in Moss Vale local court in February for the incident which occurred at Mr. Hooke’s Southern Highlands estate.

Burgess was originally sentenced to a two-year good behaviour bond and was subsequently stood down from his roles at South Sydney and Fox Sports.

The 32-year-old was not present in Goulburn District Court on Friday as his legal team worked to overturn the decision.

The decision was successfully overturned as it was deemed Mr. Hooke’s allegations could not be proven beyond reasonable doubt.
