The players who are likely to be "left on the shelf" as trade deadline nears

2020-11-10T11:20+11:00

AFL Trade Radio’s Mitch Cleary has named the players who are likely to return to their respective clubs as opposition interest evaporates.

As the Trade Period nears a conclusion, a host of names will be hoping to find new homes in the coming days.

Cleary said the likes of Fremantle midfielder Connor Blakely, Geelong’s Charlie Constable and Melbourne forward Tom McDonald are all likely to now stay put as interest cools from other clubs.

“Connor Blakely is unlikely at this stage to get any interest like (Gold Coast’s Will Brodie and Geelong’s Charlie Constable),” he said on AFL Trade Radio’s Early Trade.

“There’s a few guys who might be left on the shelf.

“If you look at Tom McDonald, who Matthew Lloyd said yesterday didn’t have interest at Essendon and Collingwood has pulled out (of the running) as well – they guys may have to go back to their clubs.

“The Hawks have cooled on Tom Phillips and are now saying they’re unlikely for him, so there might be a few players going back to their clubs and they have every right to do it as they hold contract there next year.”

This year’s exchange window ends on Thursday night.
