Lisa Alexander has reflected on her successful nine-year stint as coach of the Australian netball team.
Alexander was appointed in 2011 and guided the Diamonds to gold medal glory in the 2014 Commonwealth Games and the 2015 Netball World Cup.
She also led Australia to silver at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and 2019 Netball World Cup with both finals decided by just one goal.
“You certainly remember all the really good times,” Alexander told SEN's This Is Your Sporting Life thanks to Tobin Brothers Funerals.
“That’s something that I’ve got to train myself to do because it's really easy for me to just think of the last four years of the cycle. We had to repeat success and that’s really hard.
“I’m really proud that we stayed world No.1 though so that shows that the work we did to sustain our success and our standards of the squad were really high, and you’ve got to keep it in perspective.
“We lost those two games (2018 Commonwealth Games and 2019 Netball World Cup) by one goal. I won’t go back on it but if you look back at the penalties, we were very heavily penalised in both of those games.
“There is a bit of, what I would say, rub of the green and it didn’t go our way.”
Alexander’s time as Diamonds coach came to an end in March when her contract was not renewed by the board of Netball Australia.
She is the most capped Diamonds coach of all time, winning 83 of 102 games in charge.
