One of the premier G1 races on the Australian Racing calendar. In recent years Winx won it 4 years in a row, whilst overseas imports Lys Gracieux and Adelaide are also recent winners.
Track
At time of writing on Thursday night the track is a Good 4, with rain forecast. Could easily get into the soft range by the time this race commences.

The 3yo Grandslam should take up the running and give them something to chase. Buckhurst, Armory & Russian Camelot should be near the speed. Kolding & Probabeel can take up midfield positons. Aspetar & Sir Dragonet won’t get too far back. The rest will look to swoop into it from the 800m mark

3 time G1 winner over a mile in Victoria. Going well this prep and can handle the wet. Does look the best knockout chance here.
6) Aspetar
European import who comes into this with good form. Does appear to be a 2400m horse however so could find some of these a bit nippy.
7) Sir Dragonet
Ran 2nd to Magical last start at G1 level which is premier overseas form. Has proven adept in the wet and big race specialist G Boss on board.
9) Arcadia Queen
Hit peak form again beating Russian Camelot by 1.3L last start. The wet track is the query with her.
11) Russian Camelot
Top class entire who won The Underwood strongly before 2nd to Arcadia Queen. Will appreciate the more brutal tempo expected in this Cox Plate. Likes the cut out of the ground and rates very highly here.
12) Armory
Top class Northern Hemisphere 3yo who comes into this race with stronger formlines than Adelaide who this stable won the Cox Plate with in 2014. A repeat of the last start 3rd behind Magical & Ghaiyyath in the G1 Irish Champion Stakes simply wins here.
13) Probabeel
Handy multiple G1 winning mare who comes into the race off an Epsom Handicap win. Is going well but a strongly run 2000m is a question mark for her.
14) Grandslam
3yos have a great record in this race but class is a big query here. Don’t think he’s up to it
