Channel 7 has confirmed the team who will commentate this year’s Grand Final.
After the most tumultuous season in AFL/VFL history, Richmond and Geelong will do battle at the Gabba in what will be the first-ever Grand Final to be held both outside of Victoria and at night.
Channel 7 Managing Director confirmed that Bruce McAvaney and Brian Taylor will head up the call, after the latter completed two weeks of interstate quarantine ahead of last week’s Preliminary Finals.
“BT and (McAveney) are up (in Queensland) and Luke Hodge as well,” he said on SEN Breakfast.
“And Abbey Holmes, who has just travelled all over the country and been everywhere.
“They are up in Brisbane and we have the guys in the studio down here.
“I have to say – calling remotely has been not ideal, especially for the special comments guys.
“They’ve all had to work hard on their screens, but it has been a great outcome from all broadcasters.”
Martin said he was interested in exploring the possibility of a dynamic fixture in 2021, where matches are only scheduled for several weeks in advance rather than the entire schedule being released in one hit.
“We got could there are probably 16 clubs who are going to be competitive in the next year,” he said.
“Both the compressed outcome and the dynamic fixture could play a part next year, we’re still going to have to operate in the COVID limitations (in 2021) I reckon.”
AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan echoed his sentiment on SEN’s Whateley on Wednesday, saying both a flexible fixture and 16-minute quarters would be reviewed ahead of next season.
