The Silver Eagle is the lead-up race to the $7.5 million Golden Eagle at Rosehill Gardens in a few weeks’ time.
Alligator Blood goes into Saturday’s edition as a short-priced favourite and will carry the hopes of his large following across the country.
He let punters down when he resumed as a short-priced favourite at Doomben last month but was unable to grab The Odyssey despite rocketing home.
That has not discouraged the bookies putting him out as an odds-on favourite for Saturday while retaining him as the strong favourite for the Golden Eagle.
Despite his class, trainer David Vandyke has some concerns for his four-year-old son of All Too Hard and is hopeful rather than confident ahead of Saturday.
"He's going along okay, and we will find out on Saturday whether he has come back in good enough shape to compete at the top level this prep," Vandyke said on Racing and Sports.
"I'm not convinced that he is back to his best, but I am hoping he convinces me. It's nice to see a smallish field and he should have every chance."
It is concerning to hear for punters thinking of launching into him as the odds-on quote but with his enormous following, it’s highly likely he will remain as a strong favourite for the race on Saturday.
He looks to have the class of the field, which includes the likes of Group 1 winner Flit, Dawn Passage and last-start winner Subpoenaed and will look to prove he still has the superstar quality that has made him a cult figure in the racing world.
Alligator Blood is currently $1.85 for Saturday’s Silver Eagle ahead of Dawn Passage at $4.80 while he currently is priced at a $4.20 favourite for the Golden Eagle ahead of Funstar at $9 and Bivouac at $11.
