Where is Jeremy Cameron's contract at? GWS provide an update

2020-09-19T10:23+10:00

GWS Giants football boss Jason McCartney says talks to re-sign Jeremy Cameron beyond 2020 have progressed “a lot further” in the last month but confirmed there was still “work to go” on any new deal.

The Giants won’t play finals this season after going down to St Kilda by 52 points on Friday night, capping off a disappointing year for Leon Cameron’s side.

Attention will now naturally turn to the future of several of their out-of-contract stars, including Cameron and defender Zac Williams.

McCartney said the club remained hopeful of finalising a deal for Cameron, who becomes a restricted free agent at the end of this season.

“We’ve had some really good discussions with his manager Alex McDonald,” he said on ABC Radio.

“In the last four weeks, it’s progressed a lot further, but it’s still not signed off on so there’s still a bit of work to go.

“We love Jeremy (Cameron) and we would love to be retaining him for the long-term future, that’s for sure.”

Giants coach Leon Cameron said the gun forward has had a “challenging” year but couldn’t question his effort this season.

“I have no doubt there are other clubs into him but I’m confident he wants to be at the footy club,” Cameron hold reporters post-match.

“He’s had a challenging year and had a challenging night (against St Kilda) getting some bad news before getting on the bus so he’s been under the pump.

“I can’t question his effort and he’s probably at times tried too hard in a tough six months for him but I’m really confident he’ll be at the footy club (in 2021).”

The 27-year-old has endured a difficult season, kicking just 24 goals from 17 matches.
