Why Kane Cornes believes the 2020 Grand Final could be “really ordinary”

2020-09-06T19:18+10:00

Kane Cornes is worried Brisbane’s high humidity and slippery conditions will see a dour and low-scoring Grand Final play out later next month.

His comments come after a Friday night clash between Brisbane and Collingwood at the Gabba on Friday night, where just 11 goals were scored between both clubs.

Cornes said that the historic first-ever Queensland Grand Final, which will take place on October 24, could be plagued by humid weather which could see the game played in slippery conditions.

“While I understand the announcement of the Gabba (for the Grand Final) and it makes sense but I think the spectacle will be really ordinary,” Cornes said on Channel 9’s Sunday Footy Show.

“I spoke to Simon Black (on SEN SA) during the week who has played more games at the Gabba beyond anyone else so get ready for maybe the world spectacle Grand Final we’ve ever seen.

“Friday night was one of the worst displays of skills we’ve seen, while it was a good contest there were five goals to six so expect the Grand Final to be played in worse conditions and we worse than this.

“It’s going to be four goals to five in a night grand final in the dewiest conditions we’ve ever seen.

“Maybe the AFL didn’t think this one through.”

Brisbane’s next night match at the Gabba will come in the Q-Clash against Gold Coast on Wednesday night.
