The AFL are putting in a contingency plan to host this year’s AFL Grand Final in Queensland, according to Channel 7’s Ryan Daniels.
As Victoria continues to battle high numbers of COVID-19 infections, Daniels is reporting that Queensland is firming to play host to this year’s showpiece event if the Melbourne Cricket Ground can’t host it.
“The AFL have already put logistical plans in place to host this year’s decider in Queensland,” he told Channel 7.
“(The AFL have made) accommodation and venue bookings (in Queensland) until the end of October. As of today, Western Australia has not been included in any such plans.
“Optus Stadium now appears certain to miss out hosting Australian sport’s marquee event.”
The AFL Grand Final was last played away from the MCG in 1991, where it was held at VFL Park due to major construction work going on at the revered venue.
