When the idea of getting the greatest following division in the history of the game together for an interview was first mooted, there was widespread skepticism.
Responses came thick and fast and they generally went something like this: “They don’t like each other, so good luck!”
“They didn’t talk to each other then. So why would they now?”
And that was just from their former teammates, many of whom consider themselves friends.
So, it was with some trepidation the AFL Record approached Don Scott, Michael Tuck and Leigh Matthews to meet, break bread and discuss not so much their brilliant individual careers at Hawthorn, but their magnificent – and unusual – partnership. However, the first clue that all might not be what it seemed was how willing they were to be part of it. Scott lives on the Mornington Peninsula in Melbourne’s outer south-east, Tuck – as always – in Berwick, also in the city’s south-east, and Matthews in Brisbane.
But at the first available date, when Matthews was in Melbourne on media duties, they readily came together.
And it took all of two minutes to establish there is a fair bit of myth about the Scott-Tuck-Matthews relationship.
