Wallace “lost confidence” in two clubs during the Marsh Series

2020-03-11T14:18+11:00

Australian Football Hall of Famer Terry Wallace expected Geelong and Hawthorn to perform to a higher standard during the Marsh Community Series.

The Cats and Hawks were two of seven clubs to lose both their Marsh Series games along with West Coast, Adelaide, Carlton, Sydney and reigning premier Richmond.

With both clubs expected to challenge for a top eight spot, Wallace thought the perennial finalists underwhelmed in their pre-season hit outs.

“I lost confidence in Geelong and Hawthorn (in the Marsh Series),” Wallace told SEN’s Dwayne’s World.

“I thought both of those two sides would have put on better showings. Geelong and Hawthorn are the two for me that I just lost a bit of confidence in.”

The Blues fell to Fremantle and Brisbane in their two games, finishing second last on the Marsh Series ladder with a percentage of just 54.23.

Despite the hype and optimism surrounding David Teague’s side, Wallace still thinks they are a work in progress.

“I still thought Carlton were a fair way off the mark,” he said.

“I thought they are still extremely young. Particularly with (Harry) McKay and (Charlie) Curnow out at the moment, I thought they are still a way off it.”
