Port Adelaide pair under injury cloud ahead of round one

2020-03-07T21:30+11:00

Port Adelaide’s ten-point win over the Western Bulldogs has been marred by injuries to two of the club’s big men.

Both Scott Lycett and Charlie Dixon came from the field in the third term with the game in the balance.

Premiership Eagle Lycett iced his left ankle after copping a knock in the first minutes of the game while Dixon had ice applied to his groin.

Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley believes both players will be okay for their round one clash with the Gold Coast Suns.

“We've got the week off, I don't think there'll be any issue," Hinkley said of Dixon, who only played nine matches last year following a broken leg.

"Lycett's the same. I think both boys will be fit and firing for round one, which is great."

The victory was Lycett’s first Marsh Community Series match of the year for the Power, having played for the All Stars in the Bushfire Relief Match last week.

Port overturned a 20-point deficit at three-quarter time to run out winners at Whyalla’s Bennett Oval.

Josh Bruce kicked four goals for the Bulldogs while Tim English slotted two and had 37 hitouts.

Travis Boak and Lachie Hunter recorded 29 disposals each while new captain Marcus Bontempelli continued his pre-season form with 27 touches.

The Bulldogs take on Collingwood at Marvel Stadium in round one.
