Swans star hurt by Champion Data ranking

2020-03-06T08:14+11:00

Champion Data has ranked Sydney’s midfield as the 16th best in the AFL after being rated No.1 in 2018.

Star Swans midfielder Josh Kennedy says the lowly ranking doesn’t sit well with him having been part of an elite engine room for several years.

“It hits you pretty personally, that’s for sure,” Sydney’s co-captain told SEN Breakfast.

“Especially when not that long ago we were probably up the other end. It is something that you do take note of and put in the back of the mind.

“Hopefully we can turn it around.”

A 94-point thumping to understrength rivals GWS in their Marsh Series opener has raised concerns about Sydney’s hopes of pushing for a top eight spot.

Kennedy says the heavy loss has been addressed ahead of Monday’s final Marsh Series hit out against North Melbourne in Hobart.

“Despite being the Marsh Series, we certainly want to come up with a little bit more energy and intensity than what we showed last Saturday,” Kennedy said.

“It certainly wasn’t swept under the carpet. We want to work to prepare for Round 1, and that’s certainly not the way to do it.

“Now it’s time to put the overalls on. We didn’t do that on Saturday … we better do it on Monday.”

Sydney’s defence and forwards were rated 5th and 7th respectively by Champion Data. Their overall list comes in at 14th.

John Longmire's men travel to Adelaide to face the Crows in Round 1 on March 21.
