The aspect of Test cricket that “disturbs” Craddock

2019-10-28T14:30+11:00

Newscorp journalist Robert Craddock is concerned about the widening gap between the three powerhouse nations – Australia, England and India – and the rest of the world.

It comes after South Africa were swept by India in a worryingly one-sided series. The Proteas lost the first Test by 203 runs before falling to consecutive innings defeats.

Craddock says the state of cricket in South Africa and Sri Lanka is at crisis levels.

Australia thrashed Sri Lanka by a record 134 runs in their opening T20I in Adelaide on Sunday.

“I think Sri Lanka have had 11 coaches in 10 years and widespread political intervention in their cricket system,” Craddock told SEN’s Whateley.

“Their cricket is in crisis and it disturbs me a little that the top three in cricket – India, Australia and England – are just clearing away.

“Because South Africa’s lost about 60 first-class cricketers to England and they’re just about to have a very modest decade.

“That’s one of my tips: South Africa to have a modest decade in cricket.”

Game 2 between Australia and Sri Lanka will be played in Brisbane on Wednesday night.
