How Kobe spent his last day in Australia

2019-03-07T11:31+11:00

With Kobe Bryant in Australia, Channel Seven’s Hamish McLachlan sat down with the NBA legend for an interview.

Bryant was in Australia hosting an “open conversation” event where he spoke about his life, career and business success.

McLachlan said he got to spend some time with Bryant, who apparently went to go see the new Harry Potter and the Cursed Child play by himself, leaving his entourage behind.

“Kobe went to Harry Potter yesterday,” McLachlan told SEN Breakfast.

“He went for a walk along the Yarra yesterday and said it was nice, no one stopped me, people were nice and sort of smiled, but there was no harassment.

“Then he saw a big billboard for Harry Potter the play and because he’s this storyteller who wants to continue to tell stories, he rang up and they told him it’s been sold out.

“He said he was going to pull a few strings. He went and watched the Harry Potter play by himself.

“It was just research to work out how to produce a really good story.”

McLachlan said he loved spending time with the NBA Champion and found his stories fascinating.

“He’s now got Kobe Inc and if you read the numbers, he put $6 million into a sports drink and Coca Cola bought him out and the value became $200 million,” he said.

“He won an Oscar for Dear Basketball which was a four-minute film that he wrote … within a year of retiring.

“He said, unless I’ve achieved more in the next 20 years than I did in the previous 20 I’d feel like I failed, but specifically I love storytelling and inspiring people and help people live better lives.”
