Pick one for Shiel trade "appealing" for Blues says Dal Santo

2018-07-11T08:19+10:00

Three-time All-Australian Nick Dal Santo says a potential Dylan Shiel to Carlton for pick one trade would be “appealing” for the Blues.

Shiel, 25, has averaged 24 disposals per game in 127 games and made the All-Australian side in 2017.

He is averaging 26 disposals and three tackles this season, and has asserted himself as one of the premier midfielders in the AFL, but is out of contract at the end of 2019.

Should Carlton trade for Shiel, they would be giving up a top pick in a supposed ‘super draft', and would be taking a risk with Shiel no guarantee to sign a long term deal at the Blues.

Dal Santo, however, believes bringing in a ready-made player makes sense, as potential draftees are an unknown commodity.

“I love Dylan Shiel,” Dal Santo told SEN Breakfast.

“I thought he could arguably be the best midfielder in the comp at the start of this year.

“It hasn’t gone that well for him and the Giants, but that one would be appealing to me.

“It might be tough to do a straight swap, so you’ll have to sprinkle in a little something on either side, but it is a valid point.

“It makes sense, you are guaranteed nothing (with the number one pick).”
