When it comes to labelling the greatest teams in VFL/AFL history, there are always a number of teams that continuously come up in the conversation.
You look at the great Hawthorn sides of the 80s, the Hawthorn team that won a famous ‘three-peat’ just a few years ago, the Brisbane dynasty of the early 2000’s or the 2007-2011 Geelong Cats.
People always have differing opinions when it comes to this, and in this case, one of the game's historic figures has shared his.
On This Is Your Sporting Life for Tobin Brothers Funerals, celebrating lives with Peter Donegan, AFL Hall of Fame Legend Malcom Blight has revealed who he believes to be the greatest team of all time.
Blight stated that he believes the 1975 North Melbourne premiership team featuring eight Hall of Fame members should top the list in the discussion of greatest ever teams.
“When people ask me what’s the greatest team you’ve ever seen, the hall of fame is a measurement,” said Blight.
“The 1975 premiership side at North Melbourne, has eight hall of fame members, nine with the coach.
“That is the most decorated team in the history of the game, even in front of the Hawthorn teams that had five or six.”
Coached by Hall of Famer Ron Barassi, the 1975 North Melbourne team featured the likes of Keith Greig, Wayne Schimmelbusch and Barry Cable and can’t be left out of the greatest team of all time debate.
