“I was fortunate enough to see it at Richmond and how quickly it can turn”

Essendon General Manager Dan Richardson says he sees similarities in the current Bombers list and the one at Richmond before their premiership triumph last year.

Richardson was poached by the Bombers after overseeing the Tigers amazing 2017 season in his role as the club's General Manager of Football Talent.

The Essendon GM has urged the club not lose faith in what they’re trying to achieve.

“There are a lot similarities that I’m seeing,” Richardson told SEN’s Time On.

“I’ve also seen how quickly it can build and turn if you continue to believe in what you’re doing.

“It doesn’t mean you don’t challenge people to improve and I certainly feel at Essendon that’s happening.

“I genuinely believe the talent is there at Essendon.

“But there is still some work to do in building that cohesion, continuity and consistency that clearly Richmond now have.

“In a funny way I’m still excited and buoyed by the opportunity for growth.

“I was fortunate enough to see it at Richmond and how quickly it can turn when you have a club that stays strong and backs in what you’re doing.”

Richardson also revealed that Orazio Fantasia is “unlikely” to return this week for the clash with Hawthorn and that a final decision will be made on him today.
